2018 is the First Year San Mateo will send a Girls SOFTBALL Team to Toyonaka!
For the first time ever, San Mateo Sister City Association is sending a girls softball team to Toyonaka, Japan. This October, a team comprised of 17 girls will be representing San Mateo to compete against girls softball teams in Toyonaka.
The players on this inaugural team are Lei’Aloha Ah Tou, Erika Bagtas, Kiana Castro, Rae D’Amato, Ashley Driscoll, Hailey Fanucchi, Jacqui Landucci, Sydney Lee, Marlena Marshall, Ariana Naguit, Makayla Peñate, Caitlin Regan, Julia Rosenberg, Leila Sadek, Claire Shelton, Brooke Umali, and Nai’a Valencia. The team will be coached by Vince DeFriese and Nick Dykes.
Over the next several months, not only will the team be practicing together on the field, they will also be attending mandatory Japanese culture classes to prepare for their trip. The Softball Team was even announced at the San Mateo City Council Meeting on June 4, 2018!

FUNDRAISING
The team will be fundraising throughout the year, including a Casino Night Fundraiser Event on Saturday, August 25. It'll be a night of food, music, poker, and tons of fun. Click on the image below for ticket information and ways to donate to the event.
